Deng Longqiang, a senior engineer at the Shennongjia National Park Authority, works in the Shennongjia National Nature Reserve in China's Hubei Province, a well-preserved forest of key ecological importance. His main task is to design four ecological corridors that will connect fragmented ecosystems and create a continuous network of habitats for wildlife.
During one of their regular checks of the forest area, Deng and his team received an evening alarm message from the monitoring centre about a suspected fire. With fire protection being a top priority in the area, they immediately began investigating the situation and coordinating the necessary measures.
