He said this was a necessary first step towards a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement issued on the fourth anniversary of the start of the Ukraine crisis, which falls on 24 February, he said the conflict represents <em>\u201ea stain on our collective consciousness\u201c<\/em> and continues to threaten regional and global security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the UN chief, the consequences of the war are deepening with each passing day. <em>\u201eThe longer the crisis lasts, the deadlier it gets, and the civilians are the ones who take the brunt of it,\u201c<\/em> he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guterres also reminded that any peaceful solution must comply with the basic principles of international law. For peace to be truly just,<em> \u201emust be in accordance with the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions and respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine\u201c<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the United Nations was ready to continue to support all diplomatic initiatives that would lead to an end to the conflict.<em> \u201eThe United Nations remains ready to contribute to all efforts towards this goal.\u201c <\/em>said the Secretary-General.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/czech.cri.cn\/2026\/02\/24\/ARTI1771898691454845\" title=\"\">CMG<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres has again called for an \u201eimmediate, complete and unconditional ceasefire\u201c in Ukraine.
