The new restriction is in place until 24 April 2026, with the agency stressing that the content of the bulletin remains unchanged. The previous recommendation expired on April 10.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bulletin covers the airspace of Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The only exceptions remain flights over the southern parts of Saudi Arabia and Oman, only at an altitude above FL320 and subject to a current risk assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The situation was triggered by US and Israeli military strikes on Iranian military installations on 28 February 2026. In response, Iran launched retaliatory attacks that further destabilised the airspace of neighbouring states. Countries hosting US military bases are also at risk, with the presence of anti-aircraft systems capable of hitting all altitudes, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles, making all affected airspace vulnerable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Impact on air transport<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The restrictions have caused one of the biggest disruptions to global air travel since the covid pandemic. Iranian, Iraqi, Kuwaiti and Syrian airspace is closed with formal NOTAMs. European airlines such as British Airways and Lufthansa have suspended flights to Dubai until at least the end of May 2026. Flights between Europe and Asia are being rerouted via the Caucasus or Central Asia, with journeys taking two to four hours longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the height of the crisis, Emirates significantly reduced its operations - before the conflict it carried over 55 million passengers a year, but now it operates at a fraction of its original capacity.
