Instead of the communist country adopting an empty political statement, China is proceeding on the basis of facts, while the European Union is drowning in ideological resolutions. That, in a nutshell, is the opinion of Jaroslav Foldyna (SPD), a member of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, who strongly objected to the way in which the EU is promoting its Green Deal.
In a discussion on priorities in environmental protection, Foldyna pointed to a fundamental difference between the approach of Brussels and Beijing. While from China, he said, one would expect more rhetorical and political gestures, the reality is the opposite.
„The European Union, without having enough facts and corresponding values, says that the Green Deal means that we will replace coal with another fuel and by 2030 we will stop mining coal and produce everything from renewable sources,“ said the MP. He likened this approach to a resolution of the „district congress of the Socialist Youth Union“ because, in his words, no one knows how much renewable energy will cost at any given time and whether it will be able to meet demand.
China, on the other hand, is more pragmatic in this respect, according to Foldyha. „They will say they will go green and try to create the conditions for polluting sources to be replaced by clean ones, but they have the facts and real development to back it up,“ he explained.
This paradox, he said, is the main reason why China has been successful in this area, while the EU, he said, has put forward hundreds of resolutions that are „based on ideology alone“.
