The 1920s on Long Island, New York. Post-war euphoria revives the American dream of getting rich quick, intensifying the need to live and enjoy life now, regardless of the ghosts of the past and the uncertainty of the future. Miraculous fortunes, celebrity sports careers, Prohibition and the rise of the Mafia, film, jazz, radio, the automobile boom, aviation, endless parties and promiscuity. A colourful and glamorous bubble of a dream of a sweet life, which soon bursts and reveals its emptiness after the stock market crash under the gloss of appearances, which is of course only a reflection of human desires. All this was expressed by F. S. Fitzgerald, a member of the 'lost generation', in his famous work The Great Gatsby. The novel has been made into a film several times and has also been adapted for the stage.
Who is he and where did he come from, the mysterious, charismatic billionaire Gatsby, who lavishly hosts the entire New York elite in his grand mansion? What made him so rich and why is he doing it? What is the market value of love, and what is the price of true affection?
The jazz story of one steep rise and fall will be staged by Martin Čičvák in March 2025.
The music was recorded by the Harmy Oldschool Band.
