At the BRICS 2025 Summit in Brazil, Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for greater openness in the global economy, digital transformation and empowerment of developing countries. China has committed to extensive assistance to countries in the Global South as well as to environmental reforms.
In his speech, Premier Li Qiang described the current international trading system as under threat and warned that the recovery of the global economy faces serious obstacles. He stressed the need for stronger cooperation within BRICS and made a strong appeal for the promotion of a fair and open economic order.
Li said China has set up a Centre for Cooperation on the Development of Special Economic Zones in BRICS Countries and is ready to build an extensive network of economic cooperation. He also supported the expansion of New development banks and allowing other developing countries to enter the Chinese financial market.
In the field of digital economy China plans to offer within five years 200 training courses on artificial intelligence and digital development for the countries of the Global South. The country also invites all countries to participate in the World Conference on Artificial Intelligencewhich will take place later this month.
Furthermore, Li appealed to the international community to united forces in the fight against climate change, stressed the need for developed countries to meet their commitments on climate finance and technology, and encouraged cooperation on carbon markets, renewables and biodiversity.
In the area of global health, he called for strengthening the capacity of public health systems, supporting the WHO and using platforms such as BRICS Vaccine Research and Development Center.
Two key documents were adopted during the Summit: BRICS Declaration on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence a BRICS Framework Declaration on Climate Finance.
