The US Secretary of State has previously stated that his administration considers extending the humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip to be its priority objective in the Middle East.
WASHINGTON, Dec 1. /TASS/. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was visiting Israel, refused to comment on the end of the pause in hostilities between the Jewish state and the Palestinian Hamas movement. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP), whose journalist accompanied Blinken on his trip to the Middle East.
According to the publication, the announcement by the Israel Defense Forces to resume operations in the Gaza Strip was made as Blinken's motorcade left the hotel. When asked by reporters aboard the plane about the resumption of fighting, the US secretary of state declined to comment, the paper noted.
Israel's state-run Kan radio earlier reported that Blinken had ended his visit to Israel and flown to the United Arab Emirates. In Dubai, he plans to take part in discussions with Arab countries on the climate and the future of the enclave. According to the radio station, this came "minutes" after fighting resumed in the Gaza Strip following the collapse of the ceasefire by Hamas.
On 30 November, the US Secretary of State said that the US administration considers its primary objective in the Middle East to be to extend the humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip in order to free hostages and deliver aid. According to U.S. media, the parties are still negotiating the renewal of the pause and a possible hostage exchange, despite Friday's continued hostilities.
