According to Jana Volfová, the statutory vice-chair of the ČSSD, the Epstein case is not only a case of sexual offences, but above all a symptom of a profound moral and judicial failure in the entire Western world.
„The richest, nowadays referred to in all the verbs, indulged in child-play, provided prostitutes, behaved in highly immoral ways - and yet they had a mouthful of big words about morality and presented themselves as the chosen ones who have the right to decide for the rest of us,“ said Volfová. She added that today it is obvious how differently ordinary people view these „demigods“.
The key problem, however, lies in the judiciary, according to Volfová. „The judicial system of Western Europe and the United States has failed. Former President Clinton and his wife do not have to testify - obviously because it would incriminate them. Judges blame each other, Democratic and Republican politicians argue, cases go unresolved for years, and today no one knows whether any sentences will be handed down at all.“ Volf said.
The consequence, according to her, is the subordination of the judiciary to political demand and elite influence. „The ‚demigods‘ make up their own minds. And that is the fundamental difference between the vaunted West and the East, where - so far, thankfully - the courts are still based on firm rules, independent of politicians and wealth, and decide according to law, not money.“ concluded Volfová.
