Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, met with Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in Beijing on Tuesday.
Peng Liyuan, who serves as UNESCO's Special Envoy for the Promotion of Girls' and Women's Education, congratulated El-Enany on his election to head the organization and praised UNESCO's key role in promoting equal access to education worldwide.
During the meeting, she reported on the development of girls' and women's education in China and expressed her willingness to continue her role as Special Envoy, strengthen cooperation with UNESCO and contribute to the further global development of women's education.
El-Enany, on the other hand, praised its long-term contribution in this area and stressed that UNESCO greatly appreciates China's support. He also said that the organization is ready to further deepen its cooperation with China in developing education for girls and women around the world.
