On Monday night, a gala evening to celebrate the Chinese New Year Spring Festival 2026 lit up screens across China and the world. Hosted by China Media Group (CMG), the gala has been a spiritual feast for the Chinese people on the eve of the Lunar New Year and a shared cultural ritual accompanying family gatherings for more than four decades.
This year, CMG partnered with its multilingual platforms in 85 languages and more than 3,500 media outlets in over 200 countries and regions to broadcast the gala live and report to a global audience.
According to preliminary statistics as of 24:00 on 16 February, the Spring Festival 2026 gala has reached a cumulative total of 677 million views across all media platforms, with 13.5 billion live and on-demand views on new media platforms. On mobile, cumulative views reached 578 million, an increase of 53.39 million from last year. Mentions of new-type productivity accounted for 23.78 % of all mentions of the gala, an 8.88-fold increase over the same period last year. Young audience participation in live streaming via all media accounted for 43.7 % of the total, an increase of 10 % year-on-year.
The gala's influence abroad was further strengthened. CMG's Spring Festival 2026 Gala was broadcast on nearly 4,000 foreign media outlets, representing a year-on-year increase of 37.95 %. Foreign social media platforms CCTV.com recorded 87.29 million live stream views, up nearly 20 % from the previous year.
