At the World Peace Forum in Beijing, Chinese Vice President Han Cheng called for stronger international cooperation, the protection of the post-war order and an emphasis on the development of poorer countries. China is said to offer solutions for an unstable world.
At the opening ceremony 13th World Peace Forum at Tsinghua University Han Cheng with a speech in which he described the contemporary world as turbulent, full of crises and rapid changes. He believes that China has a lot to offer at this time.
He recalled President Xi Jinping's initiatives such as Initiative for Global Development, Security and Civilisationor the idea of "a community with a shared future for humanity" - all as Chinese solutions to global problems.
Han pointed out that 2025 is a significant anniversary 80 years since the end of World War II a Establishment of the United Nations. These milestones, he said, are a reminder that the international order based on the UN Charter must be defended, law and multilateralism.
He also highlighted the importance of openness, fair trade and global supply chainsthat are key to inclusive growth and modernisation. He emphasized on reducing inequalities and supporting developing countrieswhose voice should be heard.
There were about 400 participants from all over the worldincluding the former Japanese Prime Minister Yukia Hatoyama, former head of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and leading diplomats and academics.
In a world reeling from conflict, China is once again styling itself as advocate of peace, partnership and balance between East and West.
