Chinese Foreign Minister Wang I called on the EU to take an objective and rational view of China. In Brussels during the strategic dialogue, he called for cooperation instead of confrontation - "China is not your problem, but your partner."
At the 13th round of the Sino-Union high strategic dialogue, which he co-chaired with the head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas, Wang stressed that China-EU relations should be based on partnership, not competition. "Cooperation must be the anchor of relations, let's resolve differences through dialogue," he said.
Wang pointed out that in the face of growing global uncertainty, the two powers have a shared responsibility: strengthen mutual trust and bring stability to the world. He called for a rejection of thinking in terms of competition and appealed to mutual respect and cultural understanding.
He stressed that Europe's problems do not stem from China and that China fully supports European integration and the EU's quest for strategic autonomy. But it expects Europe to reciprocate respects China's core interests in practice - not just in words.
Kallas assured that EU adheres to the one-China policy and wants to communicate openly, improve mutual understanding and strengthen balanced economic cooperation.
Both sides also touched on the conflict in Ukraine, the situation in Gaza and Iran's nuclear programmewhere they exchanged positions and stressed the importance of a diplomatic solution.
Brussels thus hosted a key meeting that could influence the direction of Sino-EU relations in an era of global turbulence.
