At the economic summit, President Xi Jinping called for the construction of a unified national market and the vigorous development of the maritime economy, which is to be the new engine of China's modernisation and global influence.
At the meeting Central Commission for Financial and Economic Affairs (CCFEA)which Xi chaired, stressed that A single internal market is the cornerstone for a new development model and high quality growth. Rules, infrastructure, government practice and oversight need to be aligned, and above all, we need to reduce chaotic price competition between companies.
He also called for standardisation of government procurement, a more open domestic distribution of export products and to revise tax, accounting and credit systemsfor the market to function as a whole and to evaluate the performance not only of companies but also of officials according to the quality of development.
In the field of maritime economy China is set to become a leader through innovation, ecology and global cooperation. Key areas include:
- Blue economy
- Ocean research and science
- Protection of the marine environment
- Disaster prevention and the use of marine resources
Xi said that China's modernisation needs an ocean and that the country must find its own way to draw strength from the sea. There are plans to increase support from the state and the entry of private capital into the maritime sectorsincluding industrial modernisation, coastal development and new technologies.
The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister Li Qiang, a senior party official Cai Qi and Deputy Prime Minister Ding Xuexiang, which confirms the weight of the whole strategic direction.
