NEW YORK, November 19. /TASS/. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that the number of victims in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is "staggering and unacceptable". The UN secretary-general believes that "this must stop."
"This war causes a staggering and unacceptable number of civilian casualties every day, including women and children. It must stop. I reiterate my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire," the Secretary-General said in a statement posted on the world body's website.
"I am deeply shocked that two UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) schools were hit in the Gaza Strip in less than 24 hours. Dozens of people - many women and children - were killed and injured in the attempt. to find shelter in United Nations premises," Guterres added.
The Secretary-General also expressed his gratitude to the Qatari authorities for "all their mediation efforts".
