DUBAI, April 30. /TASS/. Yemen's Ansar Allah rebel movement has struck strikes on two merchant vessels, the Cyclades in the Red Sea and the MSC Orion in the Indian Ocean, movement official Yahya Saria said.
Saria added that the Ansar Allah movement has also carried out drone strikes on two US destroyers in the Red Sea. He said the strikes "achieved their objectives".
Following the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis warned that they would launch strikes on Israeli territory while banning ships affiliated with the Jewish state from the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait until Tel Aviv ceases its military operation against the Palestinian radical group Hamas in the embattled enclave. Since last November, Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
In response, the U.S. and its allies launched Operation Prosperity Guardian to ensure freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Red Sea. On the night of 12 January, US and UK forces carried out joint strikes on rebel-held positions in several Yemeni cities using aircraft, warships and submarines. The attack targeted Houthi missile sites, drones and radar systems.
