BRIEFING ROOM - STATEMENTS AND PRESS RELEASES
American democracy is based on elected representatives coming together and overcoming their differences to find common ground for the benefit of the American people. I'm proud that my friend Mitch McConnell and I have been able to do that for many years, working together in good faith despite our many policy disagreements.
Throughout his many years of leadership, we have always been able to speak honestly with each other and put country before self.
America is now being rebuilt with the biggest infrastructure bill in nearly 70 years. We are making major investments to help our economy compete with China. As a result, we are defending our values and our most pressing national security interests around the world. America is making great strides toward a cure for cancer.
There is nothing America can't do when we do it together.
Mitch lived the American Dream, overcame polio, and became the longest serving Senate President in American history. Jill and I wish Mitch and Elaine all the best.
