Chinese Transport Minister Liu Wei said on Wednesday that a single and open transport market is an essential part of a single national market and speeding up its creation requires reducing overall logistics costs.
Minister Liu made the remarks at the ministerial corridor of the third session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC).
Total logistics costs in the company consist of three main components: transport, storage and management, with transport costs accounting for more than 50 %.
The Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with the relevant national ministries, has developed a plan to reduce costs, improve quality and increase the efficiency of transport and logistics. It has also formulated implementation plans in five sectors: railways, highways, waterways, civil aviation and postal services.
In 2024, the total logistics costs across the country will have been reduced by about 400 billion yuan (about US$55 billion), with transportation costs reduced by 280 billion yuan (about US$38.5 billion), about two-thirds of the total.
According to Liu, the Ministry of Transport will implement various measures to make further progress in promoting a unified and open transport market and strengthening cost reduction, quality improvement and efficiency in transport and logistics.
