PRAGUE - Cheetah cubs have been born at Prague Zoo after eight years. The quadruplets were born on June 18, 2026, and their mother is taking excellent care of them despite her limited experience. If their development continues well, visitors will be able to see them in their enclosure in the second half of August.

Prague Zoo is delighted with this exceptionally rare addition. On June 18, 2026, five cheetah cubs were born here, representing one of the most endangered species of feline on Earth. Approximately 7,000 individuals live in the wild today, and breeding programs in European zoos have not been successful in recent years. Each successfully raised cub therefore represents a significant contribution to the conservation of this species.

The mother of the cheetah quadruplets is a seven-year-old female who came to Prague Zoo from France, and for a long time it seemed that she would not have any cubs. However, after her health improved, she became pregnant for the first time last year and this year gave birth to five healthy kittens. Although this is her first successful litter, she is taking excellent care of the cubs, surprising even experienced zookeepers.

The female chose an outdoor enclosure for giving birth, which more closely resembles natural conditions, but also carries greater risks. However, thanks to her careful attention, the cheetah cubs survived heavy downpours at the end of June and early July without any problems. After just under a month of life, they are already starting to walk cautiously, opening their eyes, observing their surroundings, and their first canines are growing. They are still completely dependent on their mother's milk.

If the development of the cubs continues favorably and they survive the critical first weeks of life, Prague Zoo will introduce them to visitors in the second half of August 2026. This will be the first cheetah cubs raised at the Prague Zoo in eight years.
