During National Ocean Month, my administration recognizes the vital role that oceans play in advancing American commerce, strengthening our economy, and enhancing our national security. This month, we remain committed to expanding access to our ocean resources, revitalizing our shipbuilding industry, and ensuring that the United States remains the strongest and most capable maritime power in the world.

My administration is unleashing the full economic potential of our oceans to ensure prosperity and opportunity for the American people, starting with the fishing communities that have long been the backbone of our coastal towns. In February, I proudly reopened previously restricted Atlantic waters, and now I am returning nearly 5,000 square miles of pristine waters off our East Coast to commercial fishing, thereby relieving hardworking Americans of unnecessary regulations and revitalizing local economies that depend on their labor.

Under my leadership, the Gulf of Mexico is now at the center of a new era of American energy dominance, as we open its depths to the development of oil and gas production that will revitalize our economy and expand our trade with partners around the world. In the broader Outer Continental Shelf, we are working to expand private sector access to critical minerals that will secure our supply chains and solidify American energy leadership for decades to come.

A maritime nation must also control the seas with the strength of its ships. Through the American Maritime Action Plan, we are modernizing our ports, revitalizing our merchant fleet, and creating opportunities to once again build large commercial ships in America – ensuring that allies and trading partners around the world turn to American shipyards for strong and reliable vessels. We are also undertaking a historic shipbuilding effort by creating our new "Golden Fleet" and building advanced American warships. These vessels will be an unmistakable statement of American maritime supremacy and will ensure that the United States Navy remains the most dominant fighting force that has ever sailed the seas.

As we celebrate National Ocean Month, America stands proudly as the world's leading maritime power. Our oceans are open for business; our shipyards are roaring back to life; and our fishermen, energy workers, and maritime industries are reclaiming their place at the forefront of the American economy. We are ushering in a new golden age of American prosperity and maritime strength, and my administration will always work to ensure that our oceans remain a source of strength, prosperity, and success for the American people.
