Do you want to live longer, look and feel young, and have more energy? Do you want to prevent many diseases and significantly reduce your consumption of medication? Do you want to prevent stroke, impotence, and avoid Alzheimer's disease?
We obtain far more nutrients from a plant-based diet than from an animal-based diet. Here is a summary of the results of the largest dietary study ever conducted: The China Study (CS) by T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D., a book that won the US Book of the Year award:
Genes alone do not cause disease. They only have an effect when activated, and nutrition plays a major role in this.
Some genes are „dormant“, others are active. And all this is caused by the environment, especially what we eat. CS shows that cancer-causing genes are influenced by protein consumption. Research described in CS found that in animals, we can activate and deactivate harmful genes simply by adjusting the amount of protein in their diet.
Dozens of studies show that when people migrate, they accept the risk of diseases in the countries they move to. They do not change their genes, yet they suffer from diseases that are almost non-existent in their native countries. They just eat differently.
Moreover, the percentage of obese people has doubled over the past two decades. Until the last century, diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and other so-called diseases of affluence were rare, yet the genetic code could not have changed significantly.
However, genes play a significant role. Consider, for example, two Americans living in the same environment who eat the same meat-based diet. One died of a heart attack at the age of 54 and the other of cancer at the age of 80. These differences can be explained by genes. We cannot say exactly which diseases we are more susceptible to, but thanks to CS, we know how we can influence the risks leading to disease through diet. Both of these men could still be here and living a better quality of life if they had eaten an optimal diet.
Nutrition can significantly influence the adverse effects of harmful substances.
It is assumed that without antibiotics and hormones administered to farm animals, meat would be much safer. However, the real danger lies in the fact that meat represents an unbalanced set of nutrients, regardless of dangerous substances.
ČS proves that the effect of a highly carcinogenic (cancer-causing) chemical substance, aflatoxin, can be completely suppressed by proper nutrition. When laboratory rats were fed a low-protein diet, they remained healthy. The activity of chemical carcinogens (as with genes) is primarily influenced by the nutrients we consume in our diet.
„Lean“ beef is probably somewhat healthier, but both types of beef are nutritionally the same.
The same nutrition that protects against the onset and development of disease can halt or cure disease in its later stages.
The results of research conducted on humans show that a natural plant-based diet cures heart disease, helps obese people lose weight, and allows diabetics to stop therapy... Autoimmune diseases are the most feared because once the body turns against itself, we can no longer stop it. But even here, some diseases can be slowed down or suppressed with the right diet.
Nutrition that is beneficial for one chronic disease is beneficial overall.
The biochemical basis of diseases has shown how much they have in common. These similarities indicate that proper nutrition is a prerequisite for good health and can protect us from many diseases. Although a natural plant-based diet is more effective in treating heart disease than brain cancer, it does not cause one disease while suppressing another. It will never harm us.
Proper nutrition supports health in all areas of our existence.
We cannot correct poor eating habits just by running regularly. The benefits and risks associated with diet are much more significant. Of course, physical activity, emotional and mental health, and a good environment are also very important for health. Everything is interconnected.
People who eat properly have more energy. Proper nutrition and exercise complement each other, multiplying the effects and making people healthier. Those who feel satisfied are likely to take better care of their health. This means that fewer natural resources are used, less pollution is created, and animals suffer less.
These principles can help reduce the chaos surrounding dietary information. We will no longer be thrown off balance when another chemical is labelled carcinogenic, when a new book on diet is published, or when we see a newspaper headline claiming that genetic research has solved a disease.
