BUCHAREST, 29 October. Washington has informed the Romanian Ministry of National Defence of plans to reduce the number of US troops deployed in the country by some 700, the ministry said in a statement.
"The Department of Defense has been informed of a change in the number of U.S. troops stationed on NATO's eastern flank as part of a reassessment of the global posture of U.S. forces. Among the brigade units that will no longer rotate in Europe, the forces deployed in Romania and stationed at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base were mentioned," the statement said.
According to the State Department, approximately 1,000 US troops will remain in the country, which means that the contingent will be reduced by approximately 700 people.
