PRAGUE - On the occasion of the significant jubilee of the artist Libuše Staňková, a fresh and conceptually well thought-out exhibition was held at the Baterkárna gallery in the very centre of Prague, offering the audience a representative cross-section of her lifelong work.
Visitors could see paintings and collages from various creative periods, as well as examples of applied art in the form of jewellery, magnets and handbags, which demonstrate the breadth of the artist's artistic thinking and her attention to detail, ideas and playfulness. The intimate, finely tuned works, reflecting strong personal moments and the artist's inner world, create a striking contrast to her highly political and socially engaged work.
It cannot be seen as anything other than a powerful and urgent statement about the state of the contemporary world and the role that art can and should play in it. In her works, Staňková responds to the themes of violence, war, migration and the deep moral contradictions of today's society, not by means of an elementary shock, but by means of a subtle, thoughtful and often symbolic provocation that forces the viewer to think.
This part of her work carries a unified anti-war and generally humanist message, although she works with a variety of artistic forms, techniques and thematic cycles, often accompanied by original texts that further develop and deepen the meaning of the works. We warmly congratulate Libuše Staňková on her jubilee and wish her many more creative forces, inspiration and courage to continue an open dialogue with the world through art.
