The Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that the so-called Suzhou Declaration sends a clear signal of support for open and mutually beneficial cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. The document was adopted at a recent meeting of trade ministers from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member countries, and according to the Chinese side, it is the first ministerial outcome achieved during China's chairmanship of APEC this year.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, He Yadong, at a regular press conference, stated that the declaration provides a new impetus for the economic development of the region and confirms the common interest of member economies in the stability of trade and supply chains. According to him, all parties agreed that APEC should play a more significant role in ensuring their resilience.

He Yadong emphasized that the participants in the meeting pledged to jointly maintain the smooth flow of trade routes and the normal flow of essential goods. He said that the stability of supply chains is of paramount importance not only for the Asia-Pacific region itself, but also for the pace of global economic recovery.

The spokesperson recalled that the Asia-Pacific region is one of the most dynamic parts of the world economy and also a region with the largest volume of international trade. Therefore, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, it is important for APEC economies to strengthen mutual connectivity, rather than division.

According to He Yadong, the consensus reached in Suzhou sent a clear message to the international community: APEC economies prioritize cooperation over confrontation. He believes that this is of crucial importance for building a more resilient, efficient, and inclusive network of supply chains throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
