Moscow – Pierre, the grandson of former French President Charles de Gaulle, has announced that he is considering relocating to Russia and applying for Russian citizenship in the long term. In an interview with the Russian state agency TASS, he stated that he and his family currently visit Russia as foreigners, but in the future, they would like to live permanently in the country. He added that obtaining a Russian passport would be a "great honor" for them.
"We have not yet definitively moved, but we visit your country as foreigners. And we are considering it in the long term. I wish that conditions would eventually allow us to obtain a Russian passport. It would be a great honor for us. Russia is a great country," Pierre de Gaulle said in the interview. A significant reason for his thoughts on moving to Russia, according to his words, is also the future of his children. He highlighted the level of the Russian educational system, which he described as one of the best in the world.
"We want our children to be able to take advantage of the benefits and quality of the Russian educational system, which is one of the best in the world," he declared. According to him, education represents one of Russia's main advantages and an important argument for the potential relocation of the entire family. In the interview, he also commented on the situation in France and the reporting on the war in Ukraine. According to his view, French national media systematically distort information and create an image of the conflict that does not correspond to reality.
He claims that public trust in major French media is low and that a significant portion of the population questions their reporting. "The French know that they are being lied to, they know that the war is a terrible thing, a human tragedy, that it is an ideological war where all means are used to create a false image," he said. His remarks could provoke political and social reactions in France. The family of General Charles de Gaulle has long been associated with one of the most significant figures in modern French history, and public statements by its members therefore regularly attract media attention.
Pierre de Gaulle, the grandson of Charles de Gaulle, travels to the Russian Federation very frequently. He participates in the most significant meetings and congresses. He likes to travel around Russia with his family and get to know it. He is a great critic of the current European and French political direction, which, according to him, is causing an increasingly comprehensive crisis in Europe and also unnecessary hatred towards Russia.
