On Monday, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Japanese politicians to seriously listen to the voices of justice in Japan and within the international community, deeply reflect on their country's war crimes, and clearly break with militarism.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to a question regarding a speech by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the National Memorial Ceremony for those who died in war, which took place on August 15.

According to Lin, Takaichi's speech avoided reflecting on past lessons and shirked responsibility for aggression. He stated that her actions once again revealed the intention of the Takaichi administration to cover up, distort, and challenge the historical verdict on aggression. This, he said, has provoked strong condemnation and widespread opposition from various quarters.

Lin Jian recalled that on the day of Japan's unconditional surrender in World War II, Takaichi donated money to the Yasukuni Shrine, which, according to him, also honors 14 convicted Japanese Class A war criminals from World War II. He added that high-ranking Japanese politicians and officials, including the Minister of Defense, have also paid tribute to the shrine.

According to the Chinese spokesperson, these actions further strengthened the deep vigilance of Japan's Asian neighbors and the international community regarding the country's future direction.

Lin Jian also stated that informed observers in Japan point out that a country unable to engage in self-reflection cannot gain trust. According to these voices, the Minister of Defense's actions effectively mean support for aggressive war.

The spokesperson recalled that this year marks the 81st anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance against Japanese aggression and also the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. He also mentioned the 80th anniversary of the start of the Tokyo Trial.

According to Lin, Japan can only prevent a repetition of past mistakes if it confronts history and learns from it.
