The Czech Government of Andrej Babiš held its regular meeting on Monday 23 March. The cabinet approved a memorandum on enhanced cooperation with the Slovak government, which aims to significantly strengthen mutual relations between the two countries. The document is expected to be signed by the Czech and Slovak prime ministers at a renewed joint cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday 31 March.
The Memorandum was drafted on the occasion of the resumption of these joint negotiations. Its aim is to promote concrete forms of cooperation between ministries in a number of areas - from foreign policy, economy, security and defence to tourism and sport. It is also intended to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness and prosperity of both countries and to deepen regular strategic dialogue and coordination of positions within the European Union, the North Atlantic Alliance and the Visegrad Group.
The Government also approved the legislative work plan for the rest of this year and the outlook for 2027 and 2028, based on the Government's programme declaration, the needs of individual ministries and the Czech Republic's commitments to the European Union.
It foresees a total of 114 legislative tasks by the end of the year. These include one draft constitutional law, two substantive bills, fifteen draft laws, seventy-two amendments to laws, fourteen draft government regulations and ten amendments to these regulations.
The main priorities include the preparation of the state budget for next year, the draft law on revenue registration, the amendment to the law on pension insurance aimed at long-term sustainability and fair pension indexation, and the law on artificial intelligence. The latter aims to strengthen the Czech Republic's role as an active creator of European digital policy in the field of AI.
The Cabinet also decided on a change in personnel. Lukáš Klučka, First Deputy Minister of the Interior and the Ministry's Statutory Representative in charge of Digitalisation and Internal Security, became the new Government Commissioner for Digitalisation and Strategic Security with effect from 23 March.
