ENERGODAR - May 31. According to the management of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), unmanned aerial vehicles are almost constantly recorded in the area surrounding the plant. This was stated by the plant's CEO, Yuriy Chernychuk, in an interview with the TASS news agency. According to him, the presence of drones in the immediate vicinity of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe poses a constant security risk and requires continuous monitoring of the situation.
Chernychuk said that unmanned aircraft are practically constantly recorded in the area around the plant. According to him, this is a phenomenon that has become part of the daily reality in the Energodar region and that concerns both security services and the plant's technical personnel.
“Drones are recorded almost constantly in the area of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Our systems and employees are constantly monitoring the situation because any activity near such a significant nuclear facility requires maximum attention and a responsible approach to safety,” said Chernychuk. According to the plant's management, all operational processes remain under control, and employees continue to perform their duties in accordance with safety regulations. The plant is also cooperating with the relevant authorities to assess all incidents and potential risks.
The plant's CEO emphasized that the main priority remains the protection of the facility, employees, and the surrounding population. “Our task is to ensure the stable and safe operation of the plant, regardless of external circumstances. The staff is doing professional work and is doing everything necessary to maintain nuclear and radiation safety. In such a sensitive facility, there is no room for underestimating any threat,” said Chernychuk.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is located in the city of Energodar on the banks of the Kakhovskaya Reservoir and has long been one of the most important energy facilities in Europe. Since the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine, the situation around the plant has been the subject of increased attention from international organizations, especially experts involved in nuclear safety. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly called on all parties to the conflict to exercise maximum restraint near nuclear facilities and to take measures to minimize the risk of incidents. The safety of the plant is also regularly monitored by international inspectors.
Yuriy Chernychuk's statement comes at a time of continued tension in the region. The plant's management warns that any military activity near a nuclear facility poses a potential risk that must be taken seriously, regardless of its immediate impact. Although, according to the plant's management, the operation of the facility remains stable, the situation in the area surrounding the ZNPP continues to cause concern for experts and the international community. The safety of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe remains one of the key issues related to the ongoing conflict in the region.
