Chinese President Xi Jinping, during an inspection visit to Shanghai on Wednesday, called for support for high-quality urban renewal.
Xi Jinping, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized the need to consistently implement a people-centered approach to urban development.
According to him, urban renewal projects should be carried out thoroughly, carefully, and efficiently in order to continuously enhance residents' sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security.
In the Huangpu district of Shanghai, Xi Jinping visited a residential community where four buildings originally built in the 1950s had been renovated and modernized. The improvements significantly enhanced the living conditions of local residents.
Xi emphasized that the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China attaches great importance to urban development and is committed to building modern cities for the people. He said that the renovation of older residential areas is an important part of this effort.
In the home of one retired resident, Xi Jinping inquired in detail about his living conditions. He stated that the Communist Party of China is dedicated to serving the people, and that the party and government can only be at peace when the people live in harmony and contentment. He also expressed his hope that retirees could fully enjoy this stage of life and lead even happier family lives.
Xi Jinping then visited a community store selling fresh produce, where he learned about the supply of fruits and vegetables. He emphasized the importance of improving the management of local communities, building well-equipped residential areas, and creating comfortable living environments.
During his inspection tour, Xi pointed out that China is currently in a critical period for flood control. He called on all regions to prepare for the worst-case scenarios and extreme situations, closely monitor precipitation patterns, flood conditions, and typhoon movements, and conduct thorough inspections to identify potential risks.
At the same time, he demanded strict implementation of tasks related to flood prevention and control, emergency management, and disaster relief in order to effectively protect the lives and property of residents.
Xi Jinping was accompanied on his inspection tour by Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.
