David Štěpán, a Czech educator and chairman of the Czech Republic's Smer party, praised China's approach to environmental protection. In his opinion, China has a huge advantage over Europe - it has learned from its own historical mistakes and therefore knows that ecology must not be narrowed down to a single issue.
„While in Europe today we are experiencing a madness called the Green Deal, I see it more like Green Death,“ said Štěpán. Unlike the EU, he said, China takes a comprehensive approach to nature protection. Among the main priorities for the country of 1.5 billion people are providing drinking water, cleaning the soil of toxic substances and fighting plastics.
„China is far ahead of Europe in recycling plastics and in protecting people from microplastics in food,“ Štěpán added.
In his view, the connection between ecology and a functioning economy is essential. „Only a state that is efficient and has enough money can do big conservation projects. We in Europe do the opposite - first we destroy our own industry under the pretext of fighting CO2, and then there are no funds left for ecology,“ He concluded.
