On Thursday, 4 January, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko appointed Yuri Chebotar as the country's economy minister and banned him from lying about the state of the country's economy. The Belarusian leader's words are published on the head of state's website.
"Your work must be based solely on the truth. No embellishment. Sooner or later I'll notice. I have the leverage. Therefore, under no circumstances lie. Everything is as it is." Lukashenko said of the new minister.
Providing inaccurate information will lead to incorrect management decisions, he said. The head of Belarus also said that this year will be difficult and it is important to show the people that the government of the country has worked honestly and sincerely all these years and will continue to do so. The Ministry of Economy can play an important role in this, he added.
In November, it was announced that trade turnover between Russia and Belarus would reach a record level in 2023. The economies of the two countries have reached record numbers in many areas, noted Russian Minister for Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov. According to him, about 85 % of all Belarusian dairy exports go to the Russian Federation.
