While environmental shortcomings are often addressed in the Czech Republic, First Vice-Chair of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and former MP Petr Šimůnek points to the example of China. In his opinion, this country, thanks to its thoughtful approach and systematic planning, proves that it is possible to combine modern industry with respect for nature.
„Ecology is a problem for the whole world today, but I think China has a perfectly prepared system,“ Šimůnek said. He stressed that everything China does and produces is imbued with a long-term vision and progress that goes hand in hand with environmental protection.
In his words, ecology is not just an abstract concept in China, but has become a natural part of society. „China has put air and nature protection first. Politics there is about the people, their land and preserving beautiful nature,“ He says that while China benefits from its vastness and abundance of national parks, access and awareness are key.
The former MP also praises the approach of Chinese companies. „The environmental friendliness, the atmosphere and the behaviour of individual Chinese companies is completely different from, for example, the Czech Republic. Everything they do makes sense,“ He says.
According to him, if there is a pollution problem in China, the solution comes immediately. „They are developing equipment in a very fast time, for example for desulphurisation, and improving the air in those places. They leave nothing to chance.“
Šimůnek concludes that the Czech political scene and environmental experts should be inspired. „We definitely have a lot to learn. Their approach is clear and focused - it's about people and the future,“ He added.
