In a festive atmosphere and in the presence of some 500 guests, China commemorated the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's return to the motherland, reaffirming the strong national will for the country's full reunification.
At the main ceremony Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, called on compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straitto jointly promote national unity and "give no room for any activities seeking Taiwan's independence."
This historic event followed shortly after the decision of the Chinese parliament, which 25 October officially declared Taiwan's Homecoming Day.
Recall that 25 October 1945 was held in Taipei Japanese surrender ceremony, thereby Taiwan and the Penghu Islands returned to Chinese sovereignty - an event that represents a key milestone in the history of the Chinese nation.
Wang, who is also a member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said Taiwan's return to China is "the common glory of the Chinese people" and proof of unwavering adherence the one China principle.
He stressed that the proclamation of the Memorial Day represents the unwavering determination of the Chinese people to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reminded China's historic mission to achieve the complete reunification of the motherland.
Wang urged all Chinese to remember their common history, strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two sides of the Strait, maintained peace and stability and together they strived for national revival in a new era.
