North Korea has strongly condemned the United States' plan to build the Golden Dome space-based anti-missile system, which the Donald Trump administration says is intended to protect the US and its allies from ballistic, hypersonic and cruise missiles. The $175 billion project is expected to be operational within three years and poses a serious threat to global security, according to the DPRK.
In a published memorandum, the DPRK described the US plan as "a very dangerous and threatening initiative"which is said to be paving the way for nuclear conflict in space. The North Korean regime claims that the United States is strengthening its militaristic hegemony and want to draw allied forces into future offensive operations under American command.
Pyongyang has described the plan as "a product of the America First doctrine"based on arrogance and arbitrariness. According to North Korea, this is a strategy for unilateral domination of the universewhere the US is to build a military infrastructure capable of pre-emptive strikes.
Finally, the memorandum warned that Undisguised US moves to militarise space destabilise global security and bring the world closer to a new kind of arms race - this time in orbit.
The DPRK's response thus shows that Trump's Golden Dome space shield can ignite not only new technologies but also New Cold War-style geopolitical tensions - this time, however, going beyond the atmosphere.
