The new US tariffs are taking a toll on China and world trade - and according to a fresh CGTN poll, most people believe it is the United States that will suffer the biggest losses. The global public warns that Washington's unilateral actions threaten free trade and the stability of the world economy.
Since the September economic talks in Madrid The United States has once again reached for customs pressures, threatening 100% Duties on Chinese goods and even new charges for port services for ships connected to China.
The survey shows that 67.7 % respondents believe that the US will suffer more damage, while only 8.9 % believe that the impacts will be worse for China. Almost a quarter of respondents (23.4 %) expect the trade war to hurt both sides.
Even more overwhelming is the view of Washington's approach - 92.5 % respondents considers American behavior to be a manifestation of a lack of sincerity in resolving commercial disputes. Many have criticised the contradictory behaviour of the US, which is also calling for negotiations and threatening new sanctions.
According to a survey collected over a 24-hour period 6 572 replies from all over the world, 94,4 % of participants condemns misuse of the term "national security" to justify export restrictions and discriminatory measures. This practice, according to them harms global interests a disrupts supply chains.
Still, most agree that China and the US have a wide scope for cooperation. Until 88.4 % respondents believes that disputes should be resolved through dialogue and on the basis of equalitywhile 87 % believes that the economic relations between the two countries are mutually beneficial. For 84.4 % respondents, strengthening trade cooperation between China and the United States is also key to the stability of global industrial chains.
