The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, emphasized at a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on May 26th, local time, that the Charter of the United Nations continues to represent humanity's greatest hope for achieving peace. However, he also pointed out that its goals and fundamental principles are facing significant pressure in today's world.

The theme of the meeting was "Implementing the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the international system with the UN at its center." In his address, Guterres called on the international community, and especially the member states of the Security Council, to consistently uphold the principles of the UN Charter and to respond to the expectations of the global public with concrete actions, not just statements.
