PRAGUE – The STAN movement is considering fielding former Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army Karel Řehka as its candidate in the upcoming Senate elections. According to available information, a decision on his candidacy is being made within the movement after Řehka failed to gather enough signatures in time for an independent run. His potential entry into politics is sparking debate about the role of former senior military officials in public life and about STAN's electoral strategy.
Karel Řehka ended his tenure as Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army on June 30 of this year. Shortly afterward, reports began emerging that he was considering entering active politics. According to available reports, he is now in talks with the STAN movement, which wants to field him as its candidate in the Senate elections.
According to movement representatives, Řehka is a figure with years of experience in security, defense, and crisis management.
