In July 2026, various parts of China were hit by floods. The Guangxi Autonomous Region was also in the path of Typhoon Maysak, and therefore was one of the most affected regions. Some dams and reservoirs were damaged, entire villages were flooded, and many villages became isolated islands. In such a situation, it turned out that technology, which is normally used in agriculture, can save lives in emergency situations.

Agricultural and cargo drones from DJI came to the forefront, such as models FC100, T100, or M400. These machines were originally designed primarily for spraying pesticides, transporting goods, and working in areas that are difficult for humans to reach. During the floods, however, they began to transport drinking water, food, medicine, rescue ropes, and other essential supplies to places where boats could not safely reach. Where the current cut off a road or flooded a bridge, the drone became the fastest way between rescuers and people waiting for help.

The most dramatic moment occurred on July 6 in the city of Hengzhou, in the village of Yunbiao. A driver of a tanker truck was trapped in fast-moving water. Rescuers used a drone to pull him out of the dangerous situation and bring him to safety. Similar footage quickly became a symbol of a new form of rescue: instead of a helicopter flying over the raging waters, it was a machine that had previously been primarily used in fields.

DJI has repeatedly emphasized that, although some drones can carry up to 100 kilograms, they are essentially not designed for transporting people. A drone capable of carrying a person would need to undergo special modifications and safety assessments. But when it comes to saving a life, technical rules clash with reality. That's why it was almost human-like when covering the brand logo was mentioned as an emergency solution. It wasn't an elegant technical answer, but rather a silent acknowledgment that disaster sometimes overrides regulations. "Rules are meant to protect safety. But in a disaster, the highest rule may be life."

The company also offered free repairs for drones damaged during rescue operations, and the DJI store in Hengzhou promised continuous operation so that the machines could return to service as quickly as possible. This was important because in such a situation, a drone is not just an expensive piece of equipment. It is a tool that can determine minutes, and sometimes even life or death. Subsequently, drone pilots from various parts of China arrived in Guangxi. Many helped voluntarily and free of charge. Their work was not grand in the traditional sense, but it was precise, quiet, and effective: flying over flooded roads, delivering packages, finding people, saving time, giving people in isolated places the knowledge that they have not been forgotten.

The floods in Guangxi showed that technology itself is neither cold nor warm. It depends on the hands that use it. In normal operation, rules protect safety. But in a disaster, the highest rule may be life. And it is then that technology finds its human meaning: when metal, batteries, and algorithms become an extension of the hand of someone trying to save another.
