VIENNA, June 25. The leaders of the European Union countries have dismantled the European security architecture themselves, declared Dmitry Polyansky, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
“European leaders must understand that regional security models in Europe, which took decades to build since the adoption of the Helsinki Final Act in 1975, have been destroyed by their own hands. There is no going back from this,” he said at a regular meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council.
“At this point, we must move towards creating a pan-continental security architecture, open to all Eurasian countries and reflecting the current multipolarity. The principle of equal and indivisible security, which has been violated within the European framework, can be embodied in a new Eurasian [security] framework. When the conditions are ripe, Europe can join this major effort,” the Russian diplomat added.
