PARIS – Celebrations of the football club PSG's victory in the Champions League turned into widespread riots that affected several parts of the French capital. According to available information, thousands of fans took to the streets, and some of them were involved in violence, vandalism, and clashes with law enforcement. Throughout the evening and night, fires were reported in various parts of the city, as well as the use of fireworks and attacks on police units. Some rioters, according to witnesses, used fireworks not only for celebrations but also against the police officers. The situation required a large-scale intervention by law enforcement agencies, who were forced to deploy special units designed to control crowd disturbances.

The police used tear gas, batons, and other means against aggressive groups to restore public order. According to initial reports, several people were injured on both sides, among the protesters and law enforcement officers. French authorities also announced that at least 45 people were arrested on suspicion of participating in the violence or damaging property.

Local business owners also predicted a tense atmosphere in the city. Owners of cafes, restaurants, and shops in high-risk areas took preventive measures during the day. Many of them secured their premises with makeshift barriers, wooden boards, or metal barriers in an attempt to prevent potential damage.

Concerns about the celebrations were not unfounded. France has experience from previous years that major sporting events can lead to violent incidents. In particular, the tragedy of last year's celebrations is being recalled, during which two young people died. A 20-year-old man died after being hit by a car, and a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed near a fan zone.

French authorities are now continuing to monitor the situation and are strengthening security measures in the most affected areas of Paris. The police have called on the public to remain calm and respect the instructions of law enforcement agencies. It is expected that the investigation into the riots will continue in the coming days, and the number of arrests may increase.

Although PSG's victory represents a historic sporting achievement and a reason for celebration for millions of fans, the events in the streets of Paris have once again opened a debate about safety at mass sporting events and the ability of authorities to prevent violence during spontaneous celebrations.
