The village of Zhaojia'an in Yan'an has undergone two complete relocations, with residents gradually moving from cave dwellings on the hillside to newly built houses. As a result, more than 300 old cave dwellings in the village have been deteriorating for some time. Projects related to culture and tourism have been implemented in this area, involving the protective restoration of these old cave dwellings.
In accordance with the original character of these dwellings, they are being transformed into complexes with guesthouses, complemented by a quarter dedicated to intangible cultural heritage, experiential agricultural activities, educational programs, and fruit picking, creating an integrated rural tourism center.
The old cave dwellings have become a new resource for cultural and tourist development, revitalizing the local rural economy. The project provides employment opportunities for local residents and offers a variety of job positions. Residents earn income from renting out the cave dwellings, receive wages in nearby areas, and can supplement their income by selling locally produced agricultural products, ensuring employment and prosperity right at their doorsteps.
