At least 15 people were killed and another 22 were injured in a large-scale overnight Russian attack on Kyiv and its surroundings. This was reported by the Kyiv military administration, citing the latest figures published by Ukrainian authorities. The attack struck several areas around the Ukrainian capital and caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure.
The most tragic situation was reported from the Brovary district, where nine people were killed according to authorities. The attack also claimed victims in the city of Bucha and in the Fastiv district. According to the head of the Kyiv military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, four people died in Bucha, while one person was killed in the Fastiv district. At least 21 people were also injured in the area around the capital.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that one of the Russian strikes hit a warehouse located near the city centre. Rescue workers continued to clear rubble at the scene and managed to free two people. Initial reports of a fire at a twenty-storey residential building in Kyiv's Obolon district were not confirmed, according to the mayor. Ukrainian authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and are searching for any additional victims. Emergency services are working at multiple locations simultaneously and the situation may continue to change as more information becomes available.
Simultaneously with the attack on Ukraine, Russian authorities announced the consequences of a Ukrainian drone strike on Russian territory. According to Tula region Governor Dmitry Milyaev, a Ukrainian drone struck a warehouse belonging to online retailer Wildberries. A fire broke out following the strike, engaging firefighting units. Russian authorities did not immediately release information on any casualties or the extent of material damage.
The overnight attacks on both sides of the front confirm the continuing intensity of the conflict, which has now lasted several years. While Ukraine regularly faces large-scale missile and drone attacks on its cities, Russia has in recent months increasingly reported strikes by Ukrainian unmanned vehicles deep within its territory.
