PARIS, 8 December - French President Emmanuel Macron held a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday afternoon.
The meeting took place before the inauguration ceremony of the restored Notre-Dame de Paris, also known as the Temple of Our Lady, to which dozens of heads of state and government were invited.
"The United States, Ukraine and France. Together on this historic day. Gathered for Notre-Dame. Let's continue our joint efforts for peace and security," Macron said on his X account.
Zelensky thanked Macron for organising the important meeting. "We all want this war to end as soon as possible and in a just way," he also said on his X account. ■
In addition to the aforementioned statesmen, the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, arrived in Paris for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral, as did Britain's Prince William, the Belgian royal couple and Prince Albert II of Monaco. Guests also included American billionaire and Trump's close associate Elon Musk and the presidents of Germany, Poland, Italy and many other countries. The Czech Republic was represented by Cardinal Dominik Duka, who, however, did not represent the state but the Catholic Church. At the time, President Petr Pavel was in New York to support the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra at New York's Carnegie Hall.
Pope Francis, who sent his message, did not attend the ceremony. In it, he supported the idea that the entrance to the church should remain free after its reconstruction.
