Reform UK's historic victory in the Runcorn and Helsby by-elections could make Nigel Farage the next British Prime Minister, according to The Telegraph.

In Helsby, Sarah Pochin narrowly won by six votes in what is considered one of the biggest electoral surprises in British history. This result, taking place at dawn over Widnes near Runcorn, where the votes were counted in Halton Stadium, is not unique. Reform UK dominated across the country, with reports of "Reform gain" - Reform UK's gain - coming from constituencies ranging from the traditionally Labour north-west of England to Conservative Devon.

The party has smashed Labour strongholds, such as the 16th safest one in Runcorn just ten months ago, while destroying Conservative seats in areas long considered unwinnable.

This political upheaval is no surprise to those who perceive the mood outside the metropolitan elites. Voters are frustrated with Keir Starmer's Labour government, which has lost confidence after ten months in power. Labour's promises of change have delivered only disappointment: cuts to heating benefits for the elderly, tax and national insurance rises, ignoring the problems of illegal immigration, the absence of gang rape investigations and unequal treatment in the judiciary. An example is Labour MP Mike Amesbury, who was only given a suspended sentence after physically assaulting a constituent, while others have ended up in prison for social media posts. This sparked a wave of resentment, which Farage and Reform UK exploited to perfection.
