President of the Republic Petr Pavel received Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský at Prague Castle. The meeting had several topics on the agenda: evaluation of the recent Asian trip, the situation in Ukraine and coordination of the Czech Republic's position on the situation in the Middle East.
The Czech Republic is a long-standing and reliable ally of Israel and recognises its right to self-defence. At the same time, however, they agreed on the need to address the dire humanitarian situation of the civilian population in Gaza. Civilians must not be used as hostages by either side in the conflict.
Czech humanitarian aid to Gaza should therefore continue. The President confirmed with the Minister the need for close coordination and information on this issue. They also considered the involvement of the EU and the continuation of the direct dialogue with Israel, especially the implementation of the agreement to increase humanitarian aid, to be crucial. The cessation of violence and the release of all remaining hostages remains a priority.
The President also informed the Minister about the results of his trip to Japan. At the same time, the President discussed current events in connection with the war in Ukraine.
