Jožka Uprka – painter of Moravian Slovakia. He was born on January 24, 1861, in Kněžduby near Hodonín and died on March 12, 1940, in Hroznová Lhota.</p> <h2>Jožka Uprka – a painter devoted to his homeland</h2> <p>He came from a family with artistic traditions – his brother <strong>František Uprka</strong> was a renowned sculptor. Jožka studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and later continued his studies in Munich and Paris. He painted them with extraordinary precision and love, capturing every detail of embroidery, color combinations, and the way the costumes were worn. His paintings thus became not only artworks but also valuable <strong>ethnographic documents</strong>.</p> <p>Among his most famous works belong depictions of <strong>rides of kings, Shrovetide processions, harvest festivals</strong>, and other folk celebrations. His paintings can be found in many Czech museums and galleries, including the <strong>Moravian Gallery in Brno</strong> and the <strong>Municipal House in Hodonín</strong>.</p> <p>Jožka Uprka remains a symbol of love for Moravian folk traditions and an irreplaceable chronicler of the life that once characterized the villages of Slovácko.</p>
