The BRICS summit, which comes as Malaysia chairs the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), promises to be a momentous occasion - especially in the context of shared priorities with Brazil, which chairs the BRICS grouping this year. This was stated by Danial Rahman, CEO of Asian Strategy and Leadership Incorporated (ASLI), in an exclusive interview with BERNAMA News Agency, a BRICS TV partner.

He said the themes of inclusiveness and sustainability, which both countries emphasise as key priorities, enable Malaysia to make a significant contribution to the BRICS Summit agenda. The country will be able to showcase its approaches to building an inclusive and equitable society, he added.

"The BRICS Summit gives Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim the opportunity to highlight the importance and centrality of ASEAN and demonstrate its contribution to strengthening peace and security," řekl Rahman.

The expert noted that this will be the first BRICS summit that Malaysia will attend as a partner country of the group. The ASLI Director-General expressed the view that the outcome of the meeting may bring progress in the development of settlement mechanisms in national currencies. In his view, this will create a fairer financial and trading environment for developing countries.

The BRICS Summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro on 6-7 July and will be the main event of the Brazilian Presidency of the group.
