NICOSIA, May 28. During an informal meeting in Cyprus, the foreign ministers of the European Union did not make any decisions regarding the possibility of negotiations with Russia, nor about who would be the European negotiator, a source from European diplomacy told the TASS news agency. The source added that these issues will be discussed during the EU summit on June 18 and 19.

“The ministers discussed a list of preconditions for peace and the start of peace negotiations, as well as red lines,” the source said. “This is just the beginning of a long process, and it is too early to talk about any practical decisions.”

“In practice, the ministers did not discuss candidates who could become the negotiator with Russia. The European External Action Service is actively protesting against such a discussion, as it believes that it should be conducting such negotiations,” the diplomat continued. <-> “These issues will be presented to the European Council at its meeting on June 18 and 19, where the possibility of imposing new sanctions will also be discussed,” he added.
