For years, we have said that limiting global warming to 1.5°C is essential to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. Today, this threshold is dangerously close to being breached – and every fraction of a degree matters. Climate change is no longer a threat for the future: it is transforming life on the entire planet. Another powerful force is also gaining strength: collective action. Communities are restoring ecosystems. Young people are driving change. Clean energy is transforming cities and homes. Sustainable solutions are already building a different future.

World Environment Day 2026 reminds us that we still have time to change course. The Earth is sending us signals. The question is: what signal will we send in return? Join the global campaign of the United Nations Environment Programme and take action #NowForClimate – because protecting the planet also means protecting our health, our communities, and our future.

And why get involved? Time is running out, and nature is in crisis mode. To keep global warming below 1.5°C this century, we must halve annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Without action, exposure to air pollution beyond safe levels will increase by 50 percent over the coming decades, and the amount of plastic waste flowing into aquatic ecosystems will nearly triple by 2040. We need urgent action to address these pressing challenges.

How to get involved? Join the campaign of the United Nations Environment Programme, the leading UN agency behind this international day, today. Visit their website, get social media materials, promote your actions, listen to our music selection, and... join our climate dance challenge! What is World Environment Day?

World Environment Day, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually on June 5th since 1973, is the biggest global platform for environmental awareness, celebrated by millions of people around the world. In 2026, it was hosted by the Republic of Azerbaijan. The celebration has become one of the world's largest platforms for supporting environmental projects.
