Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun at his official residence in Jakarta. The discussions focused on further developing political, economic, technological, security, and defense cooperation between the two countries.
Prabowo asked Wang Yi to convey his greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping. He also praised the results of the comprehensive strategic dialogue between Indonesia and China, as well as the "2+2" dialogue mechanism that brings together the foreign and defense ministries of both countries.
The Indonesian president stated that China treats Indonesia as an equal partner and that relations between the two countries are based on mutual respect, trust, and support. According to him, Jakarta is interested in further expanding cooperation, especially in politics, economics, science, and technology.
Prabowo also welcomed further Chinese investment in Indonesia and stated that his government would continue to create a favorable business environment for Chinese companies. He expressed expectations for the upcoming informal APEC leaders' meeting in Shenzhen in November, which is expected to be another opportunity to strengthen strategic dialogue between the two countries.
Wang Yi conveyed greetings from Xi Jinping to the Indonesian president and stated that Beijing wants to work with Jakarta to implement agreements reached at the highest level. He said that cooperation should continue to develop in politics, economics, energy, mining, defense, and security, and also contribute to regional stability.
On the same day, the second ministerial meeting of the China-Indonesia "2+2" dialogue took place in Jakarta. Wang Yi and Dong Jun represented China, while Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin represented Indonesia.
Both sides agreed that they would continue to use the mechanism as a primary platform for strategic communication on political, security, and defense issues.
One of the specific topics was cooperation against transnational crime, including telecommunications and internet fraud, the search for fugitives, and the repatriation of illegally obtained assets. China and Indonesia also want to continue cooperating in the area of maritime security and the protection of important sea lanes.
In the defense sector, both countries plan to expand joint exercises and training, cooperation in personnel preparation, maritime security, and technological exchange.
The parties also expressed their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea through dialogue and negotiations, and to further supporting the multilateral trading system.
During his visit, Wang Yi also met with Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairman of the Indonesian National Economic Council. On this occasion, the Chinese minister stated that the development of relations between China and Indonesia not only supports the economic growth of both countries but can also serve as an example of mutually beneficial cooperation between states of the Global South.
