The number of victims from the earthquake in Indonesia has risen to 38. According to the Jakarta Globe newspaper, the earthquake damaged government buildings, homes, schools, as well as healthcare and religious institutions on the island.

TOKYO, August 15th. At least 38 people have died in an earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale in Indonesia, according to Reuters, citing Suharyanto, head of the Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency. Earlier reports put the death toll at 20.

Following the initial shock, strong aftershocks followed, prompting authorities to evacuate residents along the coast of Flores Island from their homes and to stay at least 2 kilometers away from the coastline due to a tsunami warning.
